This Eastern Neck Island outing was different from the others in several ways. First of all for the first time our launching place was supposed to be at the end of Ingleside Road, I say “was supposed to” because when Mary and I crossed the Eastern Neck Narrows Bridge and were about to enter the preserve, we were greeted by a volunteer at the entrance. This gatekeeper informed us that there was a deer hunt going on today and the island was closed to tourist. Well, this wasn’t a promising beginning but upon further inquiry we were told it would be alright to paddle since we weren’t going to be walking around the island. Next after asking for directions to Ingleside Road we were informed that we weren’t allowed to launch from there but Bogles Wharf was open. So we preceded to our regular meeting place at Bogles Wharf and found the rest of the gathering kayakers.
